Belvedere, Gustav Klimt and the Kiss

Belvedere Palace is a magnificent Baroque palace that houses a vast collection of artworks from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

The palace complex consists of two Baroque buildings, the Upper and Lower Belvedere, which were built in the 18th century as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, a famous military leader of the Habsburg Empire.

We will start our tour with a visit to the Upper Belvedere, home to an extensive collection of Austrian art, including the famous painting "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt, as well as many other famous works of Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka, but also Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Auguste Rodin and many more.

The collection also includes paintings by other notable Austrian artists such as Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Peter Fendi and Friedrich von Amerling.

You will also have the chance to explore the sumptuous apartments of Prince Eugene and learn more about the life and legacy of this famous military leader.

Next we will walk through the palace gardens which are a true jewel of baroque landscape architecture with sculptured fountains and elegant pavilions.
